    2025 Updates:  India Guide

  • Jaipur Travel Guide for Foreigners

Jaipur, popularly known as the Pink City, is one of the best destinations in India for first-time visitors. The capital of Rajasthan combines grand forts, royal palaces, colourful bazaars, traditional food and centuries of history with a modern city that is relatively easy to explore. Jaipur is also one of the three major destinations on India's famous Golden Triangle, alongside Delhi and Agra.

    Why Visit Jaipur

Jaipur was founded in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II and was designed as a planned city. Its distinctive pink appearance dates to 1876, when the city was painted pink to welcome the Prince of Wales. The city is particularly attractive to photographers and travel vloggers because its architecture, markets and streets offer a huge variety of visual experiences.

Today, Jaipur is famous for these highlights:

    • Amer Fort and its spectacular hilltop setting

    • Hawa Mahal, one of India's most recognizable buildings

    • City Palace, the former royal residence

    • Jantar Mantar, a UNESCO World Heritage astronomical observatory

    • Nahargarh Fort and its sunset views

    • Jal Mahal, a palace surrounded by water

    • Colourful bazaars selling textiles, jewellery, handicrafts and traditional clothing

    • Rajasthani cuisine and traditional cultural performances

     Transportation in Jaipur

Rajasthan Tourism confirms that Jaipur is connected by road, rail and air, including regular buses to major cities and rail connections to destinations throughout India.

Jaipur is relatively easy to navigate, but distances between some attractions can be significant.

    Auto-Rickshaws:

Auto-rickshaws are one of the cheapest ways to travel.--and more fun than other methods.

    Final Tip for Foreign Travellers

Jaipur is one of those Indian destinations where you don't need to choose between cheap travel and authentic experiences. Eat at local restaurants, walk through the Pink City's old streets, use autos or ride-hailing apps and stay in a heritage guesthouse if you're travelling on a budget.

Most importantly, leave some time to wander. Jaipur's colourful streets, bazaars, temples and everyday life are often just as memorable as its famous monuments.
